Internet Stores
These stores are typically on line only! Many have grown at phenomenal rates, because of excellent prices and service. While many are favorites of mine, I've found that the "bricks and mortar stores are competing very effectively.
Amazon http://www.amazon.com/ Initially was a book store, but now sell almost anything!
CNET http://www.cnet.com/ I use this for software reviews, free downloads, etc - not really a store.
Ebay http://www.ebay.com/ This is an on-line auction, but you can also "buy now", just like a store.
New Egg http://www.newegg.com/ Computer parts, electronics
Overstock.com http://www.overstock.com/ Broad range of products
Tiger Direct http://www.tigerdirect.com/ Electronics, TV's, computers, etc
Secured Sites - Things to look for
On line shopping requires security. If you shop at a secured site, you should be checking for the following:
1. At "Checkout" (when you start to enter information for payment), the webpage you should arrive at will have https://xxxxxxx
2. On the checkout page you will frequently find the Verisign symbol
Note: One of the best ways to pay securely is to use Paypal. Using Paypal, provides a way of ensuring that only the amount you pay goes to the store (vendor), no credit card info is provided, you can get a refund, if not satisfied, no delivery, eyc. You need to join Paypal, and provide them with information to pay (credit card, check, etc.) I use this frequently, and now feel safe to buy from anyone on the internet, paticularly from Ebay! to go to Paypal https://www.paypal.com/
